Well….We Got a Selfie Stick…

You’ve seen them…By “them,” I mean those travelers with a Selfie Stick: a long, thin protruding metal stick with a rudimentary smartphone holder (usually some kind of bent metal) or a very fancy bluetooth-y smartphone holder.

Well, now we’ve joined the ranks of Selfie Stick-ers (or Stick-enites or Stickinians), and by golly, it’s actually pretty neat. Acquiring the Stick–as people who are “in-the-know” refer to the Selfie Stick (actually, I don’t know what serial Stickenites call the Selfie Stick, but let’s just call it the Stick)–really happened more on impulse.

BS, Or: Before Selfie Stick

Before we got a Selfie Stick (more on that in a minute), we were that couple: you know the one who either doesn’t take a photo or the couple who awkwardly squeezed into the frame of our iPhone. Our photos could only capture however far our monkey-arms could stretch, which was–well, not very far at all. And we ended up with photos like this:

You can't tell by the background, but this is Taipei. It seems I have Corgie legs for arms... You can’t tell by the background, but this is Taipei. You also can’t tell that my arms are actually Corgi legs…

Then, my work had a White Elephant gift exchange for the holidays. I brought a snow globe to give away (yay! I’m awesome!)… But, one lady happened to unwrap a Selfie Stick, and behold, envy was born. The Stick got stolen once and that lady held on to it with fists of steel (unlike the Stick, which I believe is made of aluminum). Then, my number got called and I stole it, making it the last time the Stick could be stolen.

Enemies were made that day, my friends. But, I don’t care, because with the newly-acquired Stick in my hands, our travel photography possibilities seemed endless.

ASS: After Selfie Stick

With the Stick, we took more photos together on our last Europe trip. People asked us to take their photo and then offered to return the favor. We would laugh and say “no,” and they would laugh awkwardly and wonder what kind of couple wouldn’t want their photo taken in such a beautiful place. The answer to that question is this couple. And now we can take photos like this and frame it how we want it:

Look at that, a whole castle in the background in Switzerland. Look at that, a whole castle in the background in Switzerland.

What do you think? Is the Selfie Stick worth it?
