Wednesday’s Wonder: Chateau de Versailles

This Wednesday’s Wonder: Future escargot in the gardens of Versailles.

The Palace of Versailles was home to multiple monarchs throughout French history, including Louis XVI and Napoleon. Now, it is a castle steeped in history with a beautifully manicured garden.

Garden variety slugs and snails are easy to spot in the garden after a light rain, like this little dude.

When I was young, I poured an entire bottle of bubbles on a snail in earnest hopes that he would float away and travel from the only place he could call home (I was 5, people, I also believed in Santa Claus). The result was a heeping mess of green froth and dead snail. His adventure didn’t quite pan out like my 5-year-old mind had planned.

But is it wrong that I want to poke this lil’ dude in the eye? He keeps looking right at us…

Snail in Versailles Snail in Versailles, looks good enough to eat.

Our next adventure is faster than a snail in a garden. Get it hot off the presses via email! Go nuts!

    • The things 5-year-olds think of…I’m pretty sure I went through this form of thinking with my little siblings. =D

We had a form of escargot in France. They were fresh sea snails in Nice. Yeah…I let the mister take the lead in finishing those. Too spicy for me…(he loved it, though)
