Wednesday’s Wonder: There’s a Sperm on Your Roof

This Wednesday’s Wonder: The Asahi building in Tokyo, Japan has a giant sperm–I mean–a giant flame on it.

For the over 13 million people living in the city, Tokyo has a lot of buildings to accommodate them. Some buildings are tall. Some are short. Some are old and some are new. Some have golden sperm on their roofs. Some have —

You read that right: golden. sperm.

At least that’s what we thought until we realized it was the Asahi beer building. It’s also not a golden sperm, but rather a golden flame.

It’s funny. Sure looks like a sperm to us.

I’m in the mood for some beer.

Ahem...the "flame"... Ahem…the “flame”…

  • Yep, when I saw this in Japan I had a ‘WTF’ moment… my Japanese friend said it was a flame representing a drop of beer? Or something weird and Japanese like that. He agreed that it totally looked like a gold sperm though.

  • Seeing as I Googled “what is the building with the giant sperm on it in Tokyo” and ended up here, you are not the only one to have that thought
