Wednesday’s Wonder: A Real Life Snow Globe!

This Wednesday’s Wonder: The town of Wengen is just like a snow globe.

You know when you were about seven years old, and your entire second-grade class would participate in some kind of White Elephant-y game? So your parents would give you about $3.00 or whatever was the limit and you would hike it down to the second-hand store and find something cool to give away?

This couldn’t have possibly been just my second-grade class. There had to been other budding entrepreneurial tater-tot tykes who tried to find whatevers at the Five n’ Dime, gift it, steal it, steal it again, then steal it one last time from their peer until it could no longer be stolen.

Anyway, one of those lame gifts I got was a snow globe, complete with big chunky snow flakes, a couple of little houses and a Big Ben-esque clock tower. I always wondered if these picturesque towns actually exist.

Turns out they do! Yup, like Wengen in the Swiss Alps. It literally looks just like my snow globe that got stolen from classmate-to-classmate about 5 times (because students don’t care about rules before Christmas break, I can promise you).

As we walked down from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen slipping and sliding in the fresh snow, we wondered what it would be like if Wengen was in a snow globe. And just like that, the sun disappeared and the skies dumped snow like an angry tater-tot tyke who got stuck with a snow globe.

Hey look, it's a snow globe! (AKA: Wengen) Hey look, it’s a snow globe! (AKA: Wengen)
