Wednesday’s Wonder: A Little Princess

Wednesday’s Wonder: A Little Princess

At first sight, it can easily be mistaken for a jester. Someone who makes another person laugh for a living. We walked right up to it and paused for a moment at the little kid who looks like he was molded right out of a fairy tale; perhaps even a Hungarian version of the Peter Pan story. Some people rub the kid’s knees for good luck. Others are just as surprised as we were to see a stoic statue of a jester kid with a picturesque Buda and the Danube River in the background.

That is, until we found out it’s a statue of a little girl playing Princess. The artist László Marton got his inspiration for the statue from his own kin.

Not a boy. Not a jester.

Got it.

Oh hello there. Oh hello there.

  • I was surprised too when I learned this statue is of a girl. For the longest time I thought it was a boy, but a Hungarian friend cleared it up for me. Regardless, it’s cute!

  • it isn’t a boy? what? I am just finding your blog and I love the adventure spirit on here. It is my goal this next year to travel more often. I miss seeing the world. 🙂

    • Hi Alecia,

nope, not a boy. Which is too funny, because that seems to be the consensus. Thank you for reading our blog! We appreciate it. =)
