Kansas City 3 Day Itinerary

“What is an affordable anniversary weekend-getaway with French influences to signify our engagement in Paris?” Kansas City, of course! After a flight and hotel sale notification from Yapta, we were on our way to BBQ country:

We actually arrived in Kansas City late Friday night around 11:30pm. After picking up our rental car and checking into the hotel near Crown Center, we went to a hole-in-the-wall diner called Town Topic and then later went to bed.

In the morning we took a bus north and did the following:

  • Saturday Morning City Market
  • Breakfast at Beignet
  • Walked through downtown Kansas City and hunted for fountains
  • Walked around Power & Light District and hunted for fountains
  • Drove down to the other Kansas City and had lunch at Oklahoma Joe’s (now Joe’s KC BBQ)
  • Discovered Crown Center
  • Strolled down and visited Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
  • Dinner at Novel
  • Union Station

We drove down to Shawnee on this day specifically for brunch inside a castle:

After brunch we headed back towards Country Club Plaza and did the following:

  • The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
  • Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park
  • JC Nichols Memorial Fountain
  • Country Club Plaza
  • Hunted for more fountains within Country Club Plaza
  • WWI Memorial & Museum
  • Anniversary dinner at Le Fou Frog

On this day we had lunch at Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue (Freight House Branch). Afterwards we checked out of our hotel, returned our rental car and bid farewell to Kansas City.
Kansas City: home of the most fountains in the world. Yet one more reason to visit. Kansas City: home of the most fountains in the world. Yet one more reason to visit.
